View Full Version : Newbie question - X or Ten?

Probably a silly question, but in FITA what is the difference between an "X" and a "ten".
I understand any arrow touching the ten ring is a ten, but what makes it an X?
On reading the FITA rules, it says that compound archers MUST use the inner 10 ring and all the rest of the gold is 9, so how does one score a ten that is not an X?
Sorry, but I am really confused about this?
(I saw that it is possible to get a ten or an X from this thread here http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showthread.php?t=205511)
Thanks!

For FITA compounds shooting FITA Indoor rounds may only score a 10 for arrows in the "Inner 10" (or "X" ring). This is a separate ring smaller than the usual 10 ring marked on the target face. All the rest of the gold is counted as a 9.
Page 6 of http://www.archery.org/clients/fita/web/pdf.nsf/$All/F5316487ED3A6D1BC1256EA0004E8CF2/$File/book3_2004.pdf?OpenElement shows the "inner 10" clearly marked.

To add further to the advice of Clare, in target rounds OUTDOOR the normal 10 ring is scored for both compound and recurve, but the inner 10 is marked on the scoresheet as an "X". It is still counted as 10, but used for countback purposes in case of tied scores.

Not to add to any confusion... but in the Olympic Games, there is no X ring printed on the faces at all, and they no longer announce X's at the FITA Outdoor World Championships during matchplay (though X's are scored on the official paper scorecards, for world record purposes, and in case of ties at certain stages- also useful should a shootoff go to a third arrow).
Those Olympic faces are nice to look at for us old-school types 8)

We still shoot the surplus Sydney 2000 practice targets at our club that we bought from the "Remains of the Games" sale.
Next time you are in the neighbourhood ...............

From memory they just shot "bullseyes" in Athens! :P

Hey, now, that was the term required by the Athens organizers. You don't think I really use that term given a choice, do you ? :D
Besides, in Greek it's simply "center" (kendro). Boring in English, nu ?

I agree with Clare regarding the bullseye in Athens

Only trying to help.
If you want good advice on archery to sensible questions, like your original one, keep on posting, Pete.
You will get more help here than the time you will waste on AT.
For a start, it seems that at least half of the NZ archers are usually active on this forum.
There is The One, Brocky, Archangel, Brocky, Hoyt for Life 2, Brocky, ...........
Oh bugger. I just remembered that Brocky lives in OZ. But you can have him if you want. :fadein:
