Well hopped on the scales today .....................LOL 116kg . The last 2 years i have let myself go big time , considering i had a 6 pack( and thats not of crownies either ) 2.5 years ago . Maybe its time I got my fat arse into gear as Olddog has told me numerous times . Is any one else here at the crossroads too ?

Luke,
the bloke in the horrible red shirt behind you looks like he could lose a few kilo's too!
Got to admit, I could do with dropping about 10kg - 15kg. Infact i've started already (albeit slowly) because I promised myself and my better half I'd look the best I ever have for the wedding in January. (and before the stupid comments start - I know there's not much that can be done from the shoulders up! :P )
Perhaps we could get a few on here to do this as a group challenge. Admit to your current weight, submit your goal weight and those that havn't reached it by the end of the year have to hand over say $50 or $100 to a charity that we nominate. If we do this as a group effort perhaps that may provide even more incentive and motivation to improve our lifestyle's.
Let's see what the collective number of kilo's we can lose might be?
Anyone interested?

That's very true. Initially it was pretty hard, but once results start to appear, it just gets easier and easier.
I reckon the big thing is not to think of it as a diet but rather a lifestyle change, or else you'll put it all right back on when you go off the "diet".
Good eating, and exercise. Simple. No fads.
And simply commit do living that way for good, instead of just six months.
;)
Now I'll stop preaching

For giving up the smokes, I used patches. Also I was lucky that I moved locations at work to a place where there was no where to smoke without a lot of dicking around. I did the patches for 6 weeks and have not had a ciggy in 6 years now.

I tried heaps of times until I found out about patches. I had no hope
When I tried the patches, it really was easy - no ****. Worked just like they said it would. I followed the full 12 week program, even though I felt cured after about six. That was about three years ago, and I've never felt better.

Luke was a pretty good shooter before he dropped the weight and quit smoking. However afterwards he became alot more consistant and shot quite a few 300 rounds (Aust 1) and did so easily.

Yeah, I'm convinced my increased fitness from not smoking and losing weight helped heaps, but as you can see my form has changed heaps too, thanks to Jim and Marcus.
I guess a combination of major form changes, and increased fitness has improved my shooting quite a bit ;) I'm definitely a calmer shooter now, my resting heart rate is in the low 50's which I think helps.

I probably should join in the challenge also.
Can't be a fad thing or a club thing (no JC or WW) just lifestyle changes.
That was what stuffed it for me last time, did WW and left, no goals anymore so eat eat eat drink drink drink.
Maybe someone could talk about how they propose to lose the weight.
eg... less beer, more walking/jogging, going to the gym....
It would be interesting to see what others are doing.

Well,
I consider myself to be successful at this game, so I'll offer what I did. Take it or leave it ;)
Personally I'd forget about all the crap like no carbs, blah blah blah. Fad diets might lose you weight but you'll put it back on, and mostly they're not healthy.
Firstly, I had to identify my problem.
a: insufficuent exercise
b: too much bad food
So, firstly I cut out the bad food. Talking about dim sims and potato cakes at morning tea time, hamburgers for lunch and a packet of pasta at a time for dinner :o
Yep, pretty bad diet. Drinking wasn't a problem. I drink a little, but bugger all really - only socially.
One thing is that I reckon it''s important not to be unrealistic about it. You just cant say "I'm never eating anything with fat in it again" That's just not attainable. It's important to make it a whole lifestyle change.
That means that day to day living consists of plenty of good healthy food, and a reasonable amount of exercise. If you feel like fish and chips every once in a while then go do it. Just don't eat it every day ;)
If you're going out to a restaraunt with friends, don't punish yourself. Enjoy your night. When you get home again, it's simple. Just straight back to your everyday healthy eating.
As for exercise, find things you can fit into your schedule, and things you enjoy.
That bit was easy for me, as I love to do lots of things. Mountain Biking, Road Riding, Hiking, Walking to work. All easy because I enjoy it and great exercise. Good thing is they're all free too ;) No gym memberships for me :P
So....that's my plan to success.
Simple really - just make sure that on average you don't put more calories than you burn off, and make those calories consist of good healthy food. Treat yourself to a restaraunt every now and then with friends, or a night of fish 'n chips, then back to your new everyday lifestayle when you get home.
So, what's healthy food?
I'm no nutritoinalist, but the things I eat consist of:
Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables
Don't cut out carbs, but don't eat too many - like don't eat a big carb loaded cereal for breakfast, four slices of stodgy white bread at lunch and a big bowl of pasta at dinner. You need carbs to maintain your energy levels and health, but if you overdo them and don't burn the energy they're stored as fat
Moderate amounts of lean meat, chicken and fish
Plenty of grainy stuff like muesli and my own homemade wholegrain sourdough bread.
Natural yoghurt (not sweet crap like yoplait or diet crap like nestle diet lite), Some milk, a little cheese, and an egg here and there
So, for what it's worth, doing that lost me 37 kgs in 10 months, and I've easily maintained the same weight for the last 9 months.
Good luck ;)

Luke,
Nice to see someone with a sensible approach. My wife has been doing something very similar, except she goes to the gym as well. She find the gym a great motivator and the staff are very encouraging, though not all gyms are.
The worst thing you can do is totaly cut out everything that you enjoy, it's to damn depressing if you can't have the odd little treat.
And don't go mad on the exercise to start with, if you havn't done any for a while start with walking, and build up to it. You can do some damage by getting to ambitious to soon.
Good luck to you all. Now its time for some CHOCOLATE :D

Actually if you guys want to talk strategies, I may be of some help. I lost around 30kgs when I left school in 91. The way i did it was to eat a smaler serve for dinner and to do at least 30 minutes of exercise (was shooting basketball for me) a day. At first it was hard but your stomach/mind get used to the serving very quickly.
In recent years I put around 15 of them back on and took them off doing triathlon. I however still put on weight some weeks as my appetite is massive.
What you need to do is find foods that satisfy the short term craving but do you no damage. A slice of 'light' cheese on 2 premiums and a glass of water is a great way to fill the void for a few hours instead of a piece of ham on a couple of bits of bread. Apples also do the trick. The diet Rob described above I assume is the AIS diet. I have done it myself in the past and it is very very difficult to stay on as Turkey breast gets too much too fast.
I have read a book called Body for Life and it appears to be very suitable for archery interested people. I have not done the program but it focuses on weights and the like in short duration that will do you game wonders and looks at servings based on the size of your fist (yes really) of carbs and protein. Do a Google search if you are interested. The best thing about the program is that for 1 day every week you can eat whatever you want. I believe you only have one hour to do it but I reckon you could chug a six pack and a Meat Lovers with extra cheese in that time.
Or you can go the easiest way and go Light and Easy. My Mrs did it for a couple of months before our wedding as did I and dropped a kilo a week no problems with no effort. Only issue I have with it is that as stated above, you need a strategy that you can stick with ater your 'diet' ends.
Also for those of us who like a drink of a night time, 6 beers is around 900 calories and a bottle of red is around 500. I know which I would rather have

Thanks Doug,
In my experience the most important thing is not to deprive yourself of the things you enjoy. It's not attainable, and if you try, chances are you'll end up bingeing, dropping the whole thing, and sliding back to your old self before you can say gee I'm putting on alot of weight! :o
Simply understand that you really shouldn't eat them every day. Maintain a healthy lifestyle, and enjoy some treats every now and then ;)
Makes the treats even nicer too when they aren't your everyday food :P

Actually I got it from a guy in SERT(the cops with the big guns) here in Brisbane. You can get a whole range of drugs that apparently give you fat loss. I was taking Creatine/Riboflavin/Taurine Stack and put on 4 kgs in 4 weeks of lean mass. problem is that it goes away as soon as you stop. Avoid supplement shops like the plague people.
