Catastrophic failure of a judges bow scale.

What would happen if a judges bow scale blew up dry firing the bow? I always try to draw mine with an arrow pointed down range but i see that most people dont. Is there insurance for a judge in circumstances like this?
Watching those hunting shows is a little like watching playboy. Those big racks are out there but are few and far between, easier to spot one then to get one yourself, if if you get one, it usually costs a lot of money to mount it.

there's a reason why the judge makes the archer draw the bow... that way it's their choice if they draw the bow with or without an arrow though I do recall one story of a judge's easton bow scales case opening up and the bow launching all the innards down the range...

Most judges refuse when I request to draw the bow with an arrow.

I would refuse a request to do a draw weight check unless I thought it could be reasonably conducted without undue risk to my equipment or myself.

Not sure why. It's OK to draw the bow with OR without an arrow as long as you are standing on the shooting line and have ensured the target butts and lanes ahead are clear- can't quite remember the rule now retirement's set in! I've never liked to conduct draw weight checks anywhere near the judges' tent or with others standing in the vicinity.

Anytime I have been asked to draw weight check my bow by a judge, a butt was at blank butt distance and it was accepted when I nocked an arrow and drew the bow. I have not experienced an exception to this situation.

    Agreed.
Also done this way internationally and at world events.

not just at such events, this was a university event I was at last weekend, you can see one of the targets had been brought up at the start of the session for equipment testing the compounds

These scales with a real instant peak hold are available again. They don't require waiting for three seconds or anything like that.
I found it easier to get a smooth pull and consistent peak reading by hanging onto my bow and squatting down.
