Michael..you're shooting a damn sight better than me at the moment.

I'd be lucky to hit the side of a barn if I was standing inside it!!

Active hunter, serious competitor, every day backyard shooter.
Archery of any sort has always been fun.
If it wasn't fun I wouldn't do it.

Competition

I got back into Archery after a long break because it was the one sport i couldnt master. Air rifling became easy out to the 100 yard mark, spearfishing became fish collecting etc. I guess i see Archery becoming compedative for me as soon as i achieve a decent recreational performance! At 30 i'm just happy to have rediscovered a skillfull sport that will take many years to develope (now that i have enough perspective to appreciate that fact)

For me Archery was always about fun.

However as I have gotten better I have gotten to be competitive, but not that I want to shoot every competition that I can, but against myself.

I do shoot the odd inter club event, and will compete in QRE's in the future as I get better. But this is only to get better for myself and not to beat other archers.

I'm just a hobby archer who has decided that its time someone should shoot a 1400+ gents FITA recurve. I might have to make a few changes first

"What Bruce said"

I like the precision, the self discipline/self control (or the studied quest for those things), the quiet, the focus - it's relaxing, satisfying, and calming. So that speaks to recreational. But then there's what Bruce said -

I coach more than I shoot (a lot more) would like to shoot more... but get a lot of pleasure out of helping archers reach their goals.

I am more recreational myself. I do however recommend that you shoot the State Short Course in June. Good event and the Homebush venue is very challenging.

What kind of archer am I???
Currently non-existant due to a combination of factors. Maybe one day I will rejoin, because I really did enjoy it.
But at the moment, I am trying to track people down that I used to "compete" with.
Which brings me to my question: Does anyone know what happened to Brad Lane???

Both.

You can have fun, or be competitive whilst having fun. If you are only in it for the competition, and don't enjoy it, you won't last long.

The trick is approaching it with a mindset that will allow you to have fun.

Definitely recreational with me. I'm a bit like stickman - if I beat coming last each wkend then I'm satisfied. I used to get razzed if things weren't working out but now I regard shooting more for relaxation...though its hard to relax if I've busted an arrow with a new set! LOL!!

Many facetted

Shooting for fun is fun......shooting for scores can take you to dark places at times. As you try and improve Archery (like other sports) asks many questions of you.
